So 2 years ago I was always complaining about being ill, lack of energy, not being fit enough and just generally burnt out. I was working in a spa at the time doing a mundane job and regularly went to the gym before my shifts, but if I’m honest. I had no clue what I was doing, and had no clue I was doing everything so wrong!
Fast forward 2 years and I’ve met my current boyfriend who is based in the fitness industry and really has changed my life around for the better!
Before I was going to the gym 4x a week spending 45 minutes on the cross trainer and just moving over to the weights section but never challenging myself enough simply because I didn’t have the knowledge or confidence to ask someone for help. I had no clue just how important a healthy diet and getting the right balance could be. I was trying fad diets, playing around with ultra low calories and basically using sugar as my main energy source which believe me is a road to disaster!
Now I’m not saying I’m a health and fitness expert because in reality I am far from it, but I can say just making simple changes has completely turned my life around for the better. Firstly I aim to get at least 3 litres of water a day and only drink 1 cup of coffee (I can’t go cold turkey yet.) By doing so has completely changed my energy levels making me more bouncy in the day and in the evening having a good quality sleep. Just by drinking enough has actually made me a happier person all round and cleared my skin up a hell of a lot which is a great bonus.
Secondly I try to have everything in moderation, if I know I’ve blown it one day I don’t beat myself up, I just make sure I try that bit harder the next. I make a concious effort to keep my carb intake that bit lower on non-training days and fill up on good fats and protein. One thing I’ve learnt is to never skip breakfast and have a good balanced lunch that way mid shift you can resist the urge to open the biscuits…
Lastly I try to mix my training up. I now do boot camp 2/3 times per week where each session is different. One day I’ll be flipping tyres the next I’ll be challenging myself to 100 burpees. Some days I absolutely love it, others I hate it! But it keeps me in shape and allows me to enjoy my food that bit more without the guilt.
Sometimes you feel like your not doing enough and I am that person who is constantly beating myself up for not being good enough, but challenging yourself really is the best thing to do. You will surprise yourself!
Just 3 simple changes has changed my life around for the better. So I ask you all, what small change could you do to better yourself ?
Mine is start that yoga class I’ve always wanted to do! What’s yours?
As you may or may not know I am a Beauty Therapist by trade specialising in facials, HD Brows and what I want to talk to you all about, Semi Permanent Makeup.
So what is Semi Permanent Makeup?
Semi permanent makeup is a very popular treatment used to enhance eyebrows, eyeliner and lip liner. I focus mainly on hair stroke eyebrows shown below and natural eyeliner to enhance the lash line.
Pigment is implanted into the skin with a needle very much like regular tattooing but instead just above the collagen layer in the skin so it’s semi permanent and not there forever (who would wanted feathery looking brows in 15 years anyway?) Each hair stroke is done individually at least 3 times to penetrate deeply enough for it to last in the skin. After a few hours the area will become darker and thicker due to blood flow and water retention during healing (this is completely normal) and within 7 days your new brows will be completely healed and their true colour revealed without needing to fill them in cosmetically anymore! You will need to return 4-6 weeks after for a top up to ensure all colour is level then your good to go with your new eyebrows, eyeliner or lips for at least a year!
So why did I want to become a technician? Well if I’m honest before I trained I knew little about the semi permanent cosmetics industry. I’d done prior research but nothing came about it until I got an incredible opportunity with the Salon I’m based at to go on a course with Finishing Touches to train into becoming just that.
So I did! I had my training in July 2015 where I spent the week learning about techniques for eyebrows, eyeliner and lip. Here I am on the left let loose on my first real client!
So with my intensive week led by a brilliant trainer completed I was essentially ‘let loose’. As usual with any beauty related courses you need to acquire a decent amount of case studies before getting your actual qualification (which can be difficult persuading people to be Guinea pigs) but I did it and it was the best thing Ive done. Very, very nerve wracking at first but I’ve learnt a hell of a lot in the past year and my work has really come along and I can’t wait to progress even further.
Being trained in semi permanent makeup means really I should have it too (to be a walking advert) so here I am pre/post eyeliner treatment which amazingly didn’t really hurt more of a tickle. The next morning my eyes did swell from water retention in the night but soon settle and by day 4 you’ve pretty much healed. With semi permanent makeup your required to have another session 4-6 weeks after to implant the colour thoroughly as some can leave the skin and then your set to go for at least a year!
So there you have it! That’s my story on how I became a Semi Permanent Makeup Technician.
I dare you all to consider having it done, it’ll really make your life easier. If you do consider it then research your technician and salon thoroughly making sure they come from a reputable academy such as Finishing Touches or Nouveau.
